With its dirt bike looks and fat tyres, the Ouxi GT2000 is one of the coolest fatbikes around right now. Yet the GT2000 is also factory-limited to 25 km/h. If you want to get more out of your fatbike on private or closed-off grounds, replacing the controller is THE way to derestrict your GT2000. In this article you'll learn exactly what the tunable controller does, what the 6 km/h throttle function involves and what changes after installation.
Derestricting the GT2000: why via the controller?
On many Ouxi models, such as the V8 and the C80, you derestrict by replacing the display. The GT2000 is built differently: here the speed limiter sits in the controller, the box that regulates the power from the battery to the motor. That's why a tunable display simply doesn't exist for this model. By replacing the original controller with the GT2000 tunable controller (60 km/h), the limiter disappears and you give the motor the headroom it already had all along.
What changes after derestricting?
- Top speed up to 60 km/h. The tunable controller lets the motor assist up to a maximum of 60 km/h. The speed you actually reach depends on battery voltage, tyre pressure, rider weight and surface, among other things.
- 6 km/h throttle function. The throttle function lets you ride up to 6 km/h without pedalling. Handy when setting off, manoeuvring in tight spaces or walking alongside your fatbike.
- Everything else stays familiar. Your display, lights and pedal assist keep working just as you're used to; only the limiter is different.
You'll find the current price and full specifications on the product page of the tunable GT2000 controller.
The 6 km/h throttle explained
A throttle on an e-bike often raises questions. With this tuning kit, the throttle function is deliberately limited to 6 km/h: you use it as a start-off and walk assist, not as a replacement for pedalling. That way you pull away smoothly from a kerb or out of the shed without immediately having to put pressure on the pedals. Above 6 km/h, the normal pedal assist takes over again.
How does the installation work?
Replacing the controller is mainly a matter of working calmly: take out the battery, detach the original controller, transfer the plugs one by one to the new controller and tuck everything away neatly. The plugs only fit one way, so not much can go wrong. Still stuck? Our specialist will guide you step by step via WhatsApp. And do keep your original controller in a safe place: it lets you easily return the fatbike to the standard 25 km/h later on.
Please note: a derestricted fatbike is only permitted on private or closed-off grounds; a 25 km/h limit applies on public roads.
Frequently asked questions about derestricting the GT2000
How fast does the GT2000 go after derestricting?
The tunable controller assists up to 60 km/h. The actual top speed varies per situation and depends on the battery, rider weight and surface, among other things.
Can I also derestrict the GT2000 via the display?
No. Unlike Ouxi models with an HC80 or M5 display, the GT2000's limiter sits in the controller. Tuning the controller is the only route to make this model faster.
Can I go back to the original setup?
Yes. Simply refit the original controller and your GT2000 rides just like it did out of the box. That's why you should always keep the original part.
