The Ouxi C80 and C80 Pro are among the most popular fatbikes in the Netherlands. As standard they are limited to 25 km/h, but if you want more speed on private property, you can derestrict the C80 simply by replacing the display. In this article you'll learn how fatbike tuning with an HC80 display works, what the difference is between the version with and without NFC, what the killswitch and PIN code are for, and how the installation works.
Please note: a derestricted fatbike is only permitted on private or closed-off grounds; a 25 km/h limit applies on public roads.
Derestricting the Ouxi C80: why via the display?
There are two ways to make your fatbike faster: tuning the display or tuning the controller. On the C80 and C80 Pro, replacing the display is the most popular route. The HC80 display is your fatbike's control panel and determines, among other things, the speed limiter. With a tunable HC80 display you remove that limiter and ride up to 50 km/h, with no soldering or complicated mechanical work.
Would you rather upgrade the controller, for example because you're still perfectly happy with your current display? Then the V8/C80 tunable controller with red motor cable is a great alternative. In that case, check the colour of your motor connector first, so you know for sure the controller will fit.
HC80 with NFC or without NFC: which one do you need?
Ouxi supplies the C80 with two versions of the HC80 display: with and without NFC. The difference lies in how you start the fatbike. Do you unlock your bike with an NFC card or tag that you hold against the display? Then you have the NFC version. If you start the bike with the on/off button, you have the version without NFC. When derestricting, always choose the same variant as your current display:
- HC80 Tunable Display without NFC (50 km/h, code + killswitch) — for C80s you switch on without a card.
- HC80 Tunable Display NFC (50 km/h, code + killswitch) — for C80s you unlock with an NFC card.

Killswitch and PIN code: switching between 25 and 50 km/h
Both tuning displays come with a PIN code and a killswitch function. With the included code you unlock the display's settings menu and open up the top speed to a maximum of 50 km/h. The killswitch is at least as useful: it lets you switch back to the standard 25 km/h mode in a matter of seconds. That way you enjoy full speed on private or closed-off grounds, and just as easily put the bike back into restricted mode before using it anywhere else.
Installation: replacing the HC80 display in four steps
The HC80 tuning display is plug-and-play. You don't need any special tools or technical knowledge:
- Switch off the fatbike and remove or switch off the battery.
- Detach the original display from the handlebar and disconnect the plug.
- Connect the tunable HC80 display to the same plug and mount it on the handlebar.
- Refit the battery, enter the code and first test the bike gently on private grounds.

Frequently asked questions
How fast does an Ouxi C80 go after derestricting?
With a tunable HC80 display you can ride up to 50 km/h. The actual top speed depends on factors such as battery voltage, tyre pressure, weight and surface.
Does the HC80 tuning display also fit the C80 Pro?
Yes, the C80 Pro uses the same HC80 display. Just be sure to choose the right version: with NFC if your bike starts with a card, without NFC if you switch it on with the button.
Am I allowed on public roads with a derestricted C80?
No. A derestricted fatbike is only permitted on private or closed-off grounds; a 25 km/h limit applies on public roads. With the killswitch you can easily put the bike back into restricted mode.
Can I go back to 25 km/h after derestricting?
Yes. Thanks to the killswitch you can switch back to the standard limiter at any time, without having to replace or reconfigure the display.
