Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

Can I derestrict my QMWheel V20 Cross?

Yes. With the derestrictable controller with the red motor plug (21A, 500W) your V20 Cross goes up to 45 km/h instead of 25 km/h. The plugs fit the original wiring exactly, so you can install it yourself. Riding derestricted is only allowed on private property.

How fast does a derestricted V20 Cross go?

With the derestrictable controller the V20 Cross reaches up to 45 km/h. As standard it is limited to 25 km/h pedal assist. Riding above 25 km/h is only allowed on private property, not on public roads.

How fast does the Ouxi GT2000 go when derestricted?

Derestricted, the GT2000 reaches up to 60 km/h, both on the throttle and on the pedal assist. Limited, it does 6 km/h on the throttle and 25 km/h on the pedal assist. The derestricted mode is intended for private property.

What does the kill switch on the GT2000 do?

The kill switch lets you switch between limited and derestricted riding yourself. It is included as standard, so there is nothing extra to order. Only switch it over on private property.

What does derestricting a fatbike cost?

A derestrictable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

Can I tune an Ouxi C80 Mini or QMWheel V20 Mini?

No. The Ouxi C80 Mini, C63 Mini and the QMWheel V20 Mini cannot be tuned. There is no tunable controller or tunable display for these models; they stay limited to 25 km/h. Do you want to tune after all? Then have a look at the Ouxi C80, V8 or GT2000 and the QMWheel V20 or V20 Pro.

Ouxi C80 Family Edition

The Ouxi C80 Family Edition is the fatbike you ride together.

With an optional rear seat you take a second person along, and up to a total load of 150 kg there is still room for luggage. The 250 W motor gives pedal assistance up to 25 km/h, so you are riding an ordinary electric bicycle: no driving licence, no registration plate and no helmet requirement.

The high step-through and the 75 cm frame size make the bike suitable for anyone between 150 and 200 cm. That way two people of different heights share the same fatbike, from the school run to the ride to work.

The wide 20 inch tyres grip on cobbles, gravel and forest tracks, and the springy suspension fork absorbs kerbs and bumps. With 7 Shimano gears you decide how hard you pedal, even with a passenger on the back. The 48V 15Ah battery delivers 720 Wh. On medium assistance that takes you about 60 km. Ride economically and it rises to around 75 km; with high assistance, a passenger on the back and a lot of stopping and starting you are left with about 45 km. Charging from empty to full takes 4 to 6 hours, so a night on the charger is enough.

Safety and the law

Do you need a driving licence or a helmet? No. With 250 W and pedal assistance up to 25 km/h the C80 Family Edition counts as an ordinary electric bicycle. The hydraulic disc brakes stay easy to modulate, even with weight on the back. Technically it can be derestricted to 45 km/h with a separate part, but that changes the legal status of the bike: on public roads 25 km/h of pedal assistance remains the maximum, and riding derestricted is only allowed on private or closed ground.

Warranty and delivery

You get 3 years of warranty on the frame and 1 year on the battery and the moving parts. You choose whether you receive the fatbike boxed and assemble it yourself, or fully assembled and ready to ride at your door.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

The bike is delivered limited to 25 km/h. Tuning is done with separate parts, up to 45 km/h. The 250 W motor goes with the tunable Ouxi V8/C80 controller with a red motor plug; check the plug colour on your own motor first. We do not give 6 months of warranty on that controller. The alternative is a tunable display with a killswitch, which puts the bike back to 25 km/h in one action. Riding tuned is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.

Service, warranty and delivery

On the frame you get 3 years of warranty, on the battery and the moving parts 1 year. You choose delivery boxed or assembled. Ordered before 23:59, it is delivered the next day in the Netherlands. We deliver to Belgium and Germany too, without a fixed delivery time.
