The QMWheel V20, V20 Pro and S20 are among the most popular fatbikes in the Netherlands. Powerful motor, fat tyres, bold looks — but limited to 25 km/h out of the box. Want to make your fatbike faster for use on private or enclosed grounds? Then there are two proven routes: tuning the H6C display or replacing the original controller with a tunable version. In this article we explain both options, show you exactly what you need and which parts fit your model.
Why is your QMWheel limited to 25 km/h?
Every QMWheel ships with a factory speed limiter. The H6C display and the controller work together on this: the display determines the settings and the maximum speed, the controller drives the motor. As long as the standard parts are fitted, the system neatly keeps the speed at 25 km/h — the legal limit for public roads. If you want more, you replace the part that imposes that limit.
Option 1: tuning the H6C display to 45 km/h
The simplest form of display tuning is replacing the standard H6C display with the tunable H6C display (45 km/h). This display has a 5-pin connector and fits the V20, V20 Pro, S20, V20 Max and V30. You unclip the old display's plug, connect the new one and unlock the higher top speed via the settings. No cutting cables, no software needed — within fifteen minutes you'll be riding at up to 45 km/h on enclosed grounds.
The big advantage of this route: you keep a fully featured display with speed, battery level and assist modes, just without the factory limiter.
Option 2: fitting a tunable controller
Prefer to tackle the source? The controller is the heart of your fatbike. With controller tuning, you replace the original controller with a more powerful tunable version that lets go of the limiter. For the V20, V20 Pro and S20 there's the tunable V20/V20 Pro controller with red motor cable (45 km/h). If your bike has a black motor plug, choose the tunable controller with black motor cable. Both also fit the S20 Pro and V20 Cross.
Important: before ordering, take a quick look at the colour of the plug on your motor cable (red or black). That way you can be sure the controller fits plug-and-play.
What do you need?
- Display route: the tunable H6C display (45 km/h) — a direct fit for the V20, V20 Pro, S20, V20 Max and V30.
- Controller route: the tunable controller in the right plug colour (red or black).
- Tools: an Allen key set for removing the display or controller cover — that's usually all it takes.
- A suitable location: private or enclosed grounds to use your derestricted fatbike.
Display or controller: which do you choose?
If you want the quickest and simplest tuning kit, the H6C display is the obvious choice: one plug, done. Go for the controller if your original controller is due for replacement anyway, or if you want to get everything out of the motor. Not sure which option suits your model? Please note: a derestricted fatbike is only permitted on private or enclosed grounds; on public roads a 25 km/h limit applies.
Frequently asked questions
Does the tunable H6C display also fit the S20 and V30?
Yes. The tunable H6C display with 5-pin connector fits the QMWheel V20, V20 Pro, S20, V20 Max and V30.
Do I need to replace both the display and the controller?
No, in most cases one of the two is enough to derestrict your QMWheel. Not sure about your situation or model year? Send us a quick message via WhatsApp and we'll take a look with you.
How do I know which tunable controller I need?
Check the colour of the plug on the motor cable: if it's red, choose the version with the red motor cable; if it's black, the version with the black motor cable. Both fit the V20, V20 Pro and S20.
What about warranty?
Our tuning parts come with up to 3 years of warranty. Do bear in mind that modifying your fatbike may affect the manufacturer's warranty on the bike itself.
