The QMWheel V20 Cross is the boldest looking bike in the V20 range: the same technology as the well-known V20, but with the appearance of a motocross machine. What exactly is the QMWheel V20 Cross?
The V20 Cross is a version within QMWheel's V20 range. The difference from the standard V20 and the V20 Pro lies mainly in the looks and the finish. Under the skin the story is largely the same: the same build, the same plug standard and the same factory limiter. That's good news, because it means the parts from the V20 family will fit in most cases.

Why can the V20 Cross be derestricted?
The limiter isn't in the motor, but in the controller's software. That controller determines how much current may go to the motor and up to what speed it assists. The motor itself can do more than the factory allows. Replace the controller with a tunable version and that ceiling disappears, so the bike pulls on up to 45 km/h.
Which controller do you need?
For the V20 Cross you use the tunable controller with red motor plug. It's 21A and 500W and goes up to 45 km/h. Price: 98 euros.
Do note that 45 km/h really is the maximum for this bike. You'll occasionally read about 60 km/h online, but that belongs to the GT2000 and that controller doesn't fit here.
Red or black: how to tell which plug you have
Before you order, take the battery off and find the thick cable running from the motor to the frame. Where that cable enters the frame sits the motor plug. It's either red or black, and that colour determines which controller you need.
- Red motor plug: the V20 Cross controller. The red V20 and V20 Pro controller fits it too and also goes up to 45 km/h.
- Black motor plug: the controller with black plug. That one belongs to the smaller motor and reaches a maximum of 32 km/h.

Fitting it, in brief
The job is doable if you're handy with tools. Roughly speaking:
- Battery off and the bike de-energised. Never skip this.
- Open the frame or controller cover and expose the old controller.
- Disconnect all the plugs and photograph how everything was fitted.
- Move the plugs over to the new controller one by one. They're coded by colour and shape, so there's little you can get wrong.
- Battery on, display on, and take a gentle test ride before you screw everything shut.
This is deliberately a rough order of work and not a full workshop manual. Every bike is put together slightly differently. If you're in doubt, have a bike mechanic do it.
Do you need a new display as well?
No. On the V20 Cross the controller regulates the speed, so your original screen simply keeps working and shows the correct speed too. If your display is due for replacement or you want a different model, have a separate look at the displays. You don't need one for derestricting.
What is allowed on public roads?
On public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies. That isn't negotiable. If you ride derestricted, that's only allowed on private grounds or on enclosed grounds you have permission for. So set your bike back to limited before you take it on the road.
Frequently asked questions
Does the V20 Cross reach 60 km/h too?
No. With the tunable controller you'll get up to 45 km/h. The 60 km/h you sometimes come across belongs to the GT2000, which is a different motor and a different controller.
Does the standard V20 controller fit the Cross as well?
Yes, provided the plug colour matches. If you have a red motor plug, the red V20 and V20 Pro controller fits just as well.
Will my throttle keep working?
If your bike has a throttle, you simply connect it back up to the new controller. If there wasn't one on it, a new controller won't add one by itself.
